Frequently Asked Questions

You Asked, We Answered

What is the advantage to having a doctor perform the brit milah?

I am able to inject a local anesthetic to make the procedure less painful for your child. I also have training in various ways to stop bleeding if necessary. I have experience with both in hospital and out of hospital circumcisions.

Will the circumcision hurt?

The lidocaine numbs the area to prevent the feeling of any sharp pain, but it does not stop the feeling of pressure applied by the instruments. Because of this, we will give the baby a cloth soaked in either sweet wine or grape juice (based on family preference) to help soothe that discomfort.

Can I use my medical insurance to cover the cost of the Brit Milah?

Unfortunately I am unable to accept insurance for the procedure.

Can a woman be a mohel?

Yes! The term for a female mohel is mohelet and I went through the same training as other reform mohelim. You may already be familiar with a female mohelet if you have read the story of Exodus - Miriam circumcised her brothers and was considered the first female mohelet!
